MATCH REPORT: OLD PARMITERIANS 0 - 3 SPORTING HACKNEY VETS
10/11/2018
A goal and assist each for Alan McQuade and Rory Page in the first half, a second half strike from Adam Davies and a clean sheet courtesy of Steve A GK secured the points for the Parrots on Saturday.
A philosophical Player-Manager, Jamie Duff, was full of praise for the players. He said, "despite the quite atrocious conditions we gave nothing away. From the side-lines I quite often get a head full of swirling ideas and earlier while I was sheltering from the deluge under an oak tree I went deep, really deep. By Darwinian Evolution by Natural Selection we have developed into the most successful, coupled with the most invasive, species in the history of planet earth, but more importantly and with relevance to today’s match we are still finding ways, hundreds of millions of years later, to feed that naturally occurring, primal urge for competition……. We got our goals at key times and it's always rather pleasing to keep a clean sheet."
A bright, breezy afternoon would turn to heavy rain and hale over the course of the afternoon. The Parrots started the game well and with the breeze behind them and pace aplenty up front they were trying without success to get in behind with through balls in the early stages.
With Greene and Sharpe bossing the midfield Parmiterians were limited to long balls without making any break throughs.
The first goal arrived at the midway point. Following a goalmouth scramble the danger looked to have cleared however, Page latched onto a weak clearance on the by-line and when it was hooked back to McQuade his half-volley hit the crossbar and the ball went in off the goalkeeper's head.
The Parrots continued to drive forward without creating anything clear cut until with seconds to go before half-time a through ball found McQuade and a burst of pace took him past the defender out on the right. This was followed by an inch perfect ball across the face of goal which was met by the onrushing Page to finish low for 2-0.
The second half began and the rain and hail came down in torrents creating conditions that were an additional obstacle for both teams. Chances were few until Adam Davies won the ball with a firm tackle out on the left before taking on the right back and with the use of strength and pace ran all the way into the box and produced a smart finish past the keeper for 3-0.
Parmiterians kept pressing however, there were no further chances in the game.
