Match Report: Indian Gymkhana 1-2 Sporting Hackney
Sporting Hackney got off to a winning start in their first league game of the 2017/18 season with a 2-1 away win against a very well organised Indian Gymkhana side.
The Parrots took the lead on the stroke of half time after excellent combination play between Paul Barry and Jordan Brown enabled Joshua Anderson to cross from the right, that Gymkhana could only deflect into there own net.
The second half saw the hosts grab an equaliser but with 10 minutes to go the Parrots hard work paid off when they were awarded a penalty which skipper Sam Edwards dispatched to give the Hackney based club a well deserved victory and the perfect start to the season.
The Parrots manager Peter Harrington was very pleased with the commitment from the players but insisted that "this was the first game of a very long season and although it is fantastic to start with a win. Plenty of hard work is required if we want to continue to improve and have a realistic opportunity of any honours this season.”
